Schoolbers' Origin

What were you doing at 16 years old?

For Jennibelle, she spends her free time at tradeshows talking to data scientists, investors and entrepreneurs on how Schoolber, a GeoTech founded by her parents is trying to help companies in the transport sector be more efficient in planning their vehicle route.

It all began, several years ago, when her parents, Toni and Charlemagne started a carpool service for parents whose children were attending the same school as theirs. To their surprise, the initiative generated significant interest and it was then that it dawned upon them that there was demand for a more cost effective and efficient way for parents to send their kids to school. With a leap of faith, the couple left their respective jobs in the IT and education sector and founded Schoolber in 2016 with two other partners.

Schoober started out as a matchmaking platform for parents to register their child or sign up to provide carpool service for a fee. Today, it provides low-cost location, geospatial data and system to allow transport companies to streamline their operations. Schoober operates from SLA's GeoWorks and uses OneMap as a base map for its product. GeoWorks is an industry centre set up by SLA to drive business growth and innovation within the geospatial community.

Being an entrepreneur is challenging, but it is definitely easier if your co-workers are people you could work with. When handling differences in opinion, Tony prefers to "talk it out like a family while being professional about it". It probably also helps that he has a "pretty chill" personality as this was how Jennibelle would describe her father-boss.

In Schoolber, Toni handles the business and marketing side of things while Charlemagne manages internal operations. From time to time, Jennibelle chip in as a 'spokesperson' for their business. She was easily one of the youngest exhibitor at the Innovfest Unbound 2019, the anchor event of the Smart Nation Innovation week participated by tech companies and start-ups from across Asia.

*Schoolber was one of the 16 Geoworks GeoTechs and GeoPartners which took part in the Innovest Unbound 2019, held at Marina Bay Sands from 27 to 28 June. At the event, the Geoworks showcase featured geospatial technologies and applications that range from drone, air taxis, mapping and GPS/location-based technologies; geospatial data visualisation and analytics; remote sensing; autonomous vehicles; artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, Virtual/Augmented Reality and more.
