The Orange Ballroom at Tanjong Katong Complex ordered to close for 20 days for breaching Safe Management Measures

The Singapore Land Authority (SLA) today issued an order to close The Orange Ballroom, a wedding venue, for 20 days from 22 March to 10 April 2021 for egregious breaches of Safe Management Measures (SMM). The operator had allowed a wedding couple to host three wedding receptions involving around 275 persons. Under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020, a wedding couple is allowed only one wedding reception, involving not more than 100 persons, including the wedding couple.

2.       On 30 January this year, SLA’s Safe Distancing Ambassadors conducted checks at The Orange Ballroom, which is located on the third floor of Tanjong Katong Complex, and operated by Orange Ballroom LLP. They noticed that the wedding couple held two receptions at 1.30pm and 4.30pm, and further investigations found that arrangements were made to host about 300 persons over three receptions on 30 January 2021.

3.       Investigations are ongoing for potential breaches under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020.

4.       Agencies take a serious view of any breach in SMMs by wedding organisers, venue operators and individuals. We remind all companies involved in wedding events as well as couples planning their weddings to be fully aware of and strictly adhere to prevailing SMMs to ensure the health and well-being of the community.

5.       Even as Singapore opens up under Phase 3, SMMs will have to be observed to keep the community safe, and agencies will not hesitate to take firm enforcement action against SMM breaches by errant operators and individuals. This includes fines, suspension of operations even for first offences, and prosecution for egregious breaches.
