Visit Tanjong Pagar Railway Station this Hari Raya Puasa
The iconic Tanjong Pagar Railway Station (TPRS) will open its doors to the public for Hari Raya Puasa on 6 July 2016 (Wednesday), from 9am to 6pm.
2 Gazetted as a national monument in 2011, the TPRS has been a popular venue for corporate and community events, ranging from art exhibitions and dance performances to pop-up restaurants, fashion shows and most recently, an outdoor movie screening.
3 The design of Tanjong Pagar Railway Station was inspired by Finland’s Helsinki Central Railway Station. The four giant figures at the entrance of the station symbolised Industry, Agriculture, Commerce and Transport representing the sectors of the colonial economy.1
4 Since Feb 2015, the former TPRS has been opened to the public on public holidays for people to enjoy the State property. To date, over 92,000 people have visited the heritage building.
5 This Hari Raya Puasa, members of the public can take the opportunity to visit the historic site to take photos or sketch their impressions of the national monument. We welcome the public to deposit their drawings at the former ticketing counter of the station. The drawings may be displayed at future openings.
