FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
13 October 2008

The Singapore Land Authority (SLA) will be launching a public tender for the former Seh Chuan High School (树群中小学校) at 9-3 Jalan Seh Chuan in Upper Bukit Timah for use as a commercial/foreign system school on 15 October 2008. Operators in the education sector can look forward to starting a campus on this site which has an approximate land area of 3,464 sqm and Gross Floor Area (GFA) of about 4,221 sqm. The tenancy is for an initial period of three years, with an option to renew for two more terms of three years each (i.e, 3+3+3) subject to agreement.

2          This property is located within close proximity of other international schools such as Canadian International School and the German European School Singapore, which are also occupying State properties.  It is easily accessible by public transport and is near amenities like the Beauty World Shopping Centre, the Bukit Timah food centre and the Cheong Chin Nam row of eateries. Please refer to Annex A for the location map and photo of the school.

3          There has been strong interest and demand by operators from both commercial and foreign systems schools for State properties as they are easily adaptable.

4          Singapore's attractiveness as a regional hub for businesses and education has resulted in strong demand for space in the education sector. Since April last year, SLA has awarded more than 40 State properties for educational uses.

5          Said Mr Teo Cher Hian, SLA’s Director of Land Operations (Private) Division (张子贤, 土地与房产私租处长): “In 2007, SLA had made available some 109,108 sqm in Gross Floor Area (GFA) or 19 State properties through public tender for commercial/foreign system schools.  This is about 8,300 sqm more than that tendered in 2006. SLA will continue to work with various government agencies to help meet this demand by renting out vacant State properties whenever possible. ”

6          The site showround for 9-3, Jalan Seh Chuan will be on 23 October 2008. The tender will remain open for 3 weeks from 15 October 2008 and will close on 5 November 2008 at 11 am sharp. For more information on these properties, please visit SLA’s State Property and Information Online (SPIO) web portal (https://app1.sla.gov.sg/spio), or call the SPIO hotline at 6323 9154. The tender documents are available on https://app1.sla.gov.sg/spio and http://www.gebiz.gov.sg/.
