The Singapore Land Authority (SLA) is pleased to announce that the Minister for Law has appointed five new Members of the Singapore Land Authority effective 1 June 2007. They will each serve a two-year term:

  • Mr Chaly Mah, CEO & Country Managing Partner, Deloitte and Touche, Certified Public Accountants;
  • Mr Ed Ng, President and CEO, Southeast Asia, GE Commercial Finance;
  • Ms Rita Soh Siow Lan, Director, RDC Architects;
  • Professor Pang Eng Fong, Dean, Lee Kong Chian School of Business, SMU;and
  • Dr Lee Tsao Yuan, Executive Director, SDC Consulting.
    (Please refer to Annex A for more information).

2. The Minister for Law has also re-appointed the following members for further 2-years effective 1 June 2007:

  • Mr Ong Chong Tee, Deputy Managing Director of Monetary Policy, Research and Investment Group, Monetary Authority of Singapore; and
  • BG (NS) Lam Joon Khoi, Chief Executive, SLA

3. SLA also places on record its appreciation for the outstanding service rendered by the following retiring Members of the Authority:

  • Mr Raymond Woo, Principal Architect, Raymond Woo & Associates;
  • Dr Steven Choo, Property Consultant;
  • Mr Stanley Tebbe, Retired;
  • Mr Venkatachalam Krishnakumar, Senior Advisor, Global Retail & Commercial Banking, Barclays Bank PLC ; and
  • Mr Ravi Kumar Vijayaraghavan, Partner, Bain & Co Inc, (who stepped down on 31 Dec 06).

4. The Chairman and the other Members of the Authority are:

  • Mr Greg Seow, Non-Executive Chairman, AMP Capital Investors Singapore;
  • Mr Yap Kim Wah, Senior Vice President, Singapore Airlines Ltd;
  • Mr Latiff Ibrahim, Partner, Harry Elias Partnership;
  • Ms Koh Lin-Net, Deputy Secretary, ICM and the Arts, Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts;
  • Mr Jimmy Tay Lye Soon, Chief Executive, Southeast Asia
    Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific, Hill & Knowlton

5. The new members together with the existing members will bring with them a broad spectrum of private and public sector expertise, knowledge and experience. They will lead and guide SLA’s senior management in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities as it seeks to optimise Singapore’s land resources.

About SLA

Singapore Land Authority (SLA) is a statutory board with the Ministry of Law. Its mission is to optimise land resources for the economic and social development of Singapore. SLA is responsible for the direct management of some 14,000 hectares of State land and about 5,000 buildings. It is also in charge of land sales, leases, acquisitions and allocation, developing and marketing land-related information, and maintaining the national land information database through digitised land information services. SLA is also the national land registration authority for property transactions, and the issuance and guarantee of land titles in Singapore. It also manages and maintains the national land survey system, including the defining of boundaries or legal limits of properties based on a coordinated cadastre survey system. Annex A:

1. Mr Chaly Mah has been with Deloitte & Touche for over 27 years. He is a Certified Public Accountant and is currently a Member of the Panel of Inquiry Committee of the Public Accountants Board Singapore since 2003. He is also a Member of the NUS Business School Accounting Advisory Board and was a Member of the Cut Waste Panel, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

2. Mr Ed Ng was appointed President & CEO (SEA) of GE Commercial Finance in early 2007. Prior to this, he was President of Reed Exhibitions, Singapore (REED), a leading organizer of trade and consumer events. He was also President of Asian Aerospace 2006 Pte Ltd, a joint-venture company between Reed Exhibitions Pte Ltd and Singapore Technologies Aerospace Ltd.

3. Ms Rita Soh was formerly the first lady President of Singapore Institute of Architects since 44 years in history. She has been Director of RDC Architects Pte Ltd since 1998. She was elected President of the Singapore Institute of Architects in 2004. She is Board Member of The Board of Architects. She is also Member of Conservation Advisory Panel of URA.

4. Professor Pang Eng Fong joined Singapore Management University as Practice Professor of Management in May 2002. He was appointed Vice-Provost for Academic Strategic Planning and Dean of the Lee Kong Chian School of Business in June 2006. Prior to assuming these posts, he was director of the Wee Kim Wee Centre and the Lee Kong Chian Scholars Programme.

5. Dr Lee Tsao Yuan is an Executive Director with SDC Consulting, a privately-owned Singapore-based human resources development training, consultancy and coaching company. Dr Lee is an independent and non-executive Director of Keppel Corporation and member of the Nominating Committee, the Remuneration Committee and the Board Safety Committee.
