  1. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced the widening of Pasir Panjang Road and West Coast Road between South Buona Vista Road and West Coast Link today.

  2. Pasir Panjang Road / West Coast Road serves as the primary access to several residential estates, hotels, F&B, tourist attraction, religious facilities, research and educational institutes in the vicinity. Currently, the traffic plying along this stretch of Pasir Panjang Road and West Coast Road is facing constant delay due to obstruction such as bus stopping at the bus stops, vehicles making right turns to their residences, refuse vehicles collecting rubbish at road side, etc. during the peak hours daily. The current frequent delays to the vehicles can be alleviated by widening this stretch of Pasir Panjang Road / West Coast Road from dual 1-lane to dual 2-lanes.

Enhance the Capacity of the Road Network

  1. There is anticipated increase in development quantum along this stretch of Pasir Panjang Road / West Coast Road that will result in an increase in traffic traversing in the area.

Complementing the Outer Ring Road

  1. The proposal to widen this stretch of Pasir Panjang Road and West Coast Road will also complement the future South Buona Vista Road connections to Science Park Road and Portsdown Avenue which was safeguarded for long term implementation as outer ring road.

  2. The widening work will commence in 4th quarter of 2013 and targeted to be completed by 1st quarter of 2017.

Land Acquisition

  1. To facilitate the widening works, the Government will acquire private lands along Pasir Panjang Road. The private properties affected by the widening are the open space on the plot of Electrical Substation land that is next to Varsity Park, a small section of land on 10 Balmeg Hill, a short stretch of access road in Science Park II and Gloria Mansion, and some vacant plots of land next to Horizon Residences, Palm Mansions, Redwood West Condo and Star Point Condo. The affected portions are mostly parts of drains, open spaces and grass verges. No buildings are affected by the acquisition. The Singapore Land Authority (SLA) has gazetted the lands affected by the acquisition. Landowners who are directly affected will receive the acquisition notices today.
