Safe Management Measures during Kusu Pilgrimage Season 2021

Members of public who are visiting Kusu Island during this year’s Kusu Pilgrimage Season (KPS) from 6 October to 4 November are advised to observe Safe Management Measures (SMM) that will be put in place for their safety.

2          Similar to last year’s crowd management measures, there will be a limit of 500 visitors to Kusu Island per day, and ferries to the island will observe a limit of 50 passengers for each hourly departure. The first ferry will depart from Marina South Pier at 7am, while the last ferry will depart at 4pm. The ferry will depart on an hourly basis.   

3          Visitors who wish to visit Kusu Island during the KPS are required to purchase a ticket via the website of Singapore Island Cruise & Ferry Services Pte Ltd (SIC), the appointed ferry operator, at https://islandcruise.com.sg/online-booking/ or the QR code below. The link and QR code can also be found on SLA’s website. Do remember to select “Kusu Pilgrimage 2021”.

4          Purchase of tickets can be made from Tuesday, 14 September. Upon successful purchase, SIC will send a confirmation email to the purchaser. The confirmation email must be shown at the counter of the ferry operator, Singapore Island Cruise & Ferry Services Pte Ltd, located at Marina South Pier, to obtain the ferry tickets. Please refer to the Annex for information on ferry services.

5          As part of the SMMs, visitors to Kusu Island will be required to check in using their TraceTogether (TT) App or Token to scan the venue’s QR code, or by tapping one’s TT App or Token at a SafeEntry Gateway device before boarding the ferry. Due to capacity limit of 30 people within the temple and 15 people within the keramat, visitors can expect to have to wait in queue before entering these places of worship on the island.

6          As weekends are a popular period during KPS, visitors are advised to visit Kusu Island on weekdays. They are also advised to stay home if feeling unwell. Visitors are advised to bring their own water and to wear comfortable attire and shoes for walking around the island. Overnight stays and bringing of pets to Kusu island are not permitted.

7          During the KPS 2021, all regular ferry services to St John’s Island will not stop by Kusu Island on its return trip to Marina South Pier. All private ferries/private yachts are also not allowed to berth at Kusu Island’s jetties.

Public Transportation to Marina South Pier

8          Members of the public are advised to use public transportation to get to Marina South Pier because of limited parking lots. Visitors can either take SBS Transit Bus 400 directly to Marina South Pier or take the MRT to Marina South Pier MRT station. As the Marina South Pier carpark will not be available on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays during this period, free shuttle buses will run between The Meadows Car Park at Gardens by the Bay, and Marina South Pier from 6am to 8pm, every 15 to 20 minutes on weekends and public holidays.

About Kusu Pilgrimage

One of Singapore’s Southern Islands, Kusu Island is home to the popular Da Bo Gong Temple and the “keramat” built to commemorate the 19th century pious man Syed Abdul Rahman, his mother Nenek Ghalib and sister Puteri Fatimah. Every year during the Ninth Lunar Month, tens of thousands of devotees make their way to Kusu Island for the annual Kusu Pilgrimage. This year’s Kusu Pilgrimage period is from 6 October to 4 November 2021.
