All Lorong 3 Geylang units vacated

1. The Singapore Land Authority (SLA) announced in June 2017 that the land occupied by the 191 terrace house units at Lorong 3 Geylang (L3G) would return to the State when the leases expire on 31 December 2020. The land is slated for future public housing.

2. All units at L3G have been vacated and ownership of the site has returned to the State.

3. Of the 191 units at L3G:

4. 40 units were owner-occupied. The Government had assisted the owners over the last three years with their preparations for relocation. An SLA officer was assigned to each household to guide them through their relocation plans and to provide assistance according to their unique circumstances. SLA worked with the Housing & Development Board (HDB) to ensure that all owner occupiers have found alternative housing, and that no one would be left without a housing option. 

5. 16 units were used for religious purposes. SLA had worked with the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) as well as the relevant religious organisations to assist the occupants. They were informed that they could seek assistance from the relevant member organisations of the National Steering Committee (NSC) on Racial and Religious Harmony.

6. 135 units were used as foreign workers’ accommodation. SLA and the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) had worked with employers to make relocation arrangements for all of their workers.

7. The Government takes into consideration various national, social and economic needs in making land planning decisions and redevelopment plans. The return of leasehold land to the State upon lease expiry enables the land to be rejuvenated to meet these various needs of Singaporeans. The L3G site is slated for a new public housing development as part of a plan to rejuvenate Kallang.

8. SLA will hoard up and clear the site in preparation for redevelopment.
