Land Management The Government sets aside sufficient land to cater for future development needs of Singapore. It is SLA's responsibility to ensure that all vacant State lands and buildings not earmarked for immediate development or sale are put to optimal use in the interim period. Normally, these properties are let out by tender on tenancy agreements of 2 to 3 years (with or without renewal option) or Temporary Occupation Licences (TOLs) which are for a fixed term or renewable monthly or yearly (for more details on the TOL fees, please click here). For vacant government properties, SLA will maintain them until the properties are let out or developed. The regular maintenance includes grass-cutting, housekeeping, vector control and security services. SLA also carries out physical inspections to ensure that there are no encroachments on State land. As the central authority administering all State lands and buildings, SLA also plays the important role of safeguarding past government reserves by ensuring that all land and building records are complete and accurate. Facts and Figures Of the total land area of Singapore, about 58% (40,164 hectares) are State-owned (excluding those sold to statutory boards). The various government ministries and organs of State use almost two-thirds of State lands, while the remaining one-third is managed by SLA. SLA manages about 4600 buildings that are not allocated to the government ministries and Organs of State. The property types range from residential, commercial, industrial to institutional. |
