Land Acquisition The legal framework for acquisition of private land is provided in the Land Acquisition Act. This legislation enables the government to secure land for many public programmes like schools, hospitals, housing and infrastucture developments such as roads, drains and mass rapid transit projects. SLA is the sole government authority responsible for the administration of the Land Acquisition Act. Its role is to ensure that acquisitions are properly justified through close scrutiny of public development projects affecting private land and that compensation is appropriately assessed and promptly disbursed to landowners.
