SLA SERVES COURT ORDER ON VM

SLA has served the High Court's Judgment of 25 Mar 08 on Virtual Map (Pte) Ltd (VM). The High Court had dismissed VM's appeal against the District Court’s decision that VM had infringed the copyright in the Singapore Land Authority's (SLA) street directory maps. Under the terms of the court order, VM is prohibited from:

(i)         infringing SLA's copyright in the street directory data;

(ii)        reproducing the street directory data;

(iii)       distributing, selling, offering for sale or otherwise dealing in maps which are reproductions or substantial reproductions of the street directory data; and / or

(iv)       enabling, assisting, causing, procuring or authorising others to do any of above, and to deliver to SLA (for destruction) all documents, written materials, webpages etc (i.e. the infringing materials)

2          SLA advises individuals and organisations using street directory maps supplied to them by VM to remove them as soon as possible as these are infringing maps which fall within the terms of the court order.

3.         For personal and non-commercial purposes, the public are welcome to use SLA's free map service "StreetMap@Singapore" at www.map.gov.sg.   Those who are interested in using SLA's maps for commercial purposes can approach SLA’s licensees in Annex A or visit our website at www.inlis.gov.sg
