We are always looking out for opportunities to put vacant State lands not required for immediate development to meaningful use for the enjoyment of all residents. We continually explore opportunities to work with other agencies to make suitable State land available for community and recreational use.
For example, SLA assisted the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) to turn 4.4 ha of State land in Marina South to 6 public soccer fields in 2002 and another 2.6 ha of State land on Dunearn Road to 2 public soccer fields in 2003. In August 2003, SLA granted the Ayer Rajah Citizens Consultative Committee (CCC) to use 5.3 ha of land along West Coast Road for public sports activities.
By December 2005, SLA has opened up about 280 plots of vacant State land to the public for social and recreational use. These plots covered an area of 480 ha, equivalent to about 750 football fields. SLA manages 95 of the sites, while HDB manages the rest. Members of the public can use the open spaces for free, with no booking required for unplanned activities.
The list of sites managed by SLA is a fluid one. Some of these sites will be removed from the list when they are put to interim use, while others may be added in the future.
You can refer to State Property Information Online(click on Land for Short Term Use) to view the locations of the fields open for casual community and recreational use, or click here for a list of all 284 sites.
