Glossary
  1. Cadastre
Cadastre is a system of recording property information, which includes title and spatial information.

  2. SVY21
SVY21 is a new system of surveying upon all positions are referenced.

  3. Cadastral surveying
Cadastral surveying is surveying relating to the recording of property boundaries.

  4. Spatial information
Spatial information is data relating to positioning of various features or objects.

  5. Coordinates
Coordinates are positions based on a reference system. For example, coordinates for the Plane Cartesian System relates to pairs of (x,y). For SVY21, coordinates refer to pairs of (Easting, Northing).

  6. Bearing and distance method
The bearing and distance method is the technique used in the old system for marking out boundaries of lots, as defined by direction and magnitude of boundary lines.

  7. Datum
A datum is the base through which positions are referenced.

  8. Spheroid
A spheroid is a geometrical surface with the WGS84 spheroid defined by:
    Semi-major axis 6378137.0000m
    Semi-minor axis 6356752.3142m
    Flattening 1/298.257223563
    Eccentricity 0.0818191908426

  9. Projection
Projection means transforming from a 3-D surface onto a 2-D plane. The Transverse Mercator Projection is used, meaning that there are certain parameters used for a specific formulation that converts information from a 3-D surface onto a 2-D plane.

  10. GPS (Global Positioning System)
GPS is satellite navigation system that provides positional and velocity information, which is available globally at all times and under all weather conditions.

  11. Differential GPS positioning
Diiferential GPS positioning is a technique used in GPS to achieve more accurate surveying results to the level of centimetres.
