SLA has two broad roles; we act as an agent of the Government in formulating and implementing a broad and flexible framework for optimising Singapore's land resources. Within this framework, SLA conducts the sale of State land, leasing of State land and buildings, the administration and management of all State land and buildings and, under the Land Acquisition Act, the acquisition of land for public purposes. Our other role is a regulatory one. We provide a secure, reliable and effective land registration system for transacting land. In addition, we also manage the cadastral survey system, including regulating the conduct of cadastral surveys. We have a business arm which promotes and develops an integrated land information and spatial reference system which helps industry and businesses to leverage on land information to spawn new businesses or grow existing ones.
Our immediate goal is to build a customer centric and service excellence organisation. To this end, we have focused our efforts on three key priority areas: Culture and People Development, Service Excellence and Operational Excellence. Going forward, we will move towards becoming a high performance organisation with regional recognition in our pursuit of achieving world class standards in land administration policies and practices.
- Here are some examples of our many achievements that have contributed to the economic and social development of Singapore:
- Partnered with various public agencies and community organisations in releasing land for sports, recreational and community uses, for example, at Marina South, Bukit Timah and Upper Serangoon; and opened up more than 60 hectares of land adjacent to the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve for nature trails;
- Partnered with Jurong Town Corporation in transforming Chip Bee Gardens into a synergised and complementary component in the One-North Biopolis development;
- Launched the State Property Information Online (SPIO), an e-marketing portal to widen the market exposure of State properties;
- Launched our first-ever reserved list sale site at Tiong Bahru under the Government land sales programme;
- Collaborated with Infocomm Technology consortia in exploiting our digital land information for Location Based Services.
- Launched an e-lodgement system for online submission of land-related documents over the Internet. Singapore is the first country in ASEAN to implement a completely electronic land registration and public search system;
- Improved our service levels significantly. SLA was ranked second most responsive organisation in the public sector by The Speed Team for Enterprise (STENT).
- We hope to attract at least 3 scholars per year, depending on the quality of the applicants.
