“I have always been amazed by the fact that Singapore, despite its land constraints and lack of resources, have emerged as an economic powerhouse within the region. To be able to strike a balance between housing the ever-increasing population while not compromising the economic development seems like a challenging, yet at the same time, exciting task. Such were the reasons that prompted me to apply for the SLA’s Undergraduate Scholarship. Having received the scholarship, I feel indeed honoured and look forward to be part of the team that will shape Singapore’s future.” |

"The knowledge that man's emotions and
behaviour patterns are largely influenced by his
relationship to his physical environment, as
well as the fact that land in Singapore is
scarce led me to apply for the SLA scholarship.
To be frank, the friendly and reciprocal
atmosphere during the interview convinced me to
accept the scholarship. I aim for a career in
which I am able to apply myself effectively in
tackling challenges and make a difference to
SLA's overall objectives." |

"For me, land allocation is intricately tied
to how society evolves. SLA's keenness to take a
multi-disciplinary approach attracted me because
a cutting-edge policy involves considering land
from diverse perspectives. I hope to take my
understanding of social development into actual
land policy, and make a difference." |

"The main reason why I applied for the SLA
scholarship was because the working culture and
diverse job opportunities at a government
organization appealed to me more than those at a
private law firm. In the future, it doesn't
matter in which field I work in, as long as I am
made to feel useful and that I am making some
impact on the organization" |

"There are two main reasons that attracted
me to the SLA scholarship. Firstly, SLA is a
new organisation since its formation on 1 June
2001 and I believe there will be a lot of room
for me to learn and develop. Secondly, land is a
very scarce resource in Singapore and I would
like to be part of the organisation whose main
mission is to optimise the use of it. The people
in SLA have really been very warm towards me
even though I have not started working yet. They
have constantly invited me to their annual
dinner and kept me updated on events related to
SLA and I really appreciate it. I really look
forward to the day when I can officially start
work in SLA!" |
