Registration:

This competition is organised by the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) and is open to all tertiary (university and polytechnic) students and pre-university students from Junior Colleges, Millennia Institute, Integrated Programme schools and NUS High School of Mathematics and Science from Jan 2010 to March 2010. Students are not required to have prior knowledge of GIS but should have an interest in Geography.

Students may register their teams by completing the Registration Form and submitting it to Singapore Land Authority by fax to 63544492 or 63239937 (Attention to Ms Jennifer Tan) or email to SLA_Spatial_Challenge@sla.gov.sg by 08 March 2010.

Project Proposals:

Teams should submit their proposed project topic in the Project Proposal Form (downloaded here)  to Singapore Land Authority together with the Registration Form (downloaded here). Teams may select project topics from the list provided by the Singapore Land Authority or propose their own project topics for the Challenge.

Training:

SLA and its organising partners will provide assistance to students on GIS or technical queries throughout the entire duration of the competition with the following:

  • 2-days training on GIS will be conducted in March 2010. Teams will be required to indicate their preferred training day upon submission of registration (please refer to the Registration Form). Venue of training sessions will be advised later.
  • Each team will also be provided with a 1-hour consultation session. Teams will be notified when the consultation session slots are available for reservation.

Teams are to notify Singapore Land Authority (Email: Ms Jennifer Tan at SLA_Spatial_Challenge@sla.gov.sg) of their preferred consultation session slot. Reservation of consultation sessions are on a first come first serve basis.

Prizes:

The SLA Spatial Challenge 2010 consists of prizes for each of these 2 group categories:
1. Pre-University (Junior Colleges, Millennia Institute, Integrated Programme schools and NUS High School of Mathematics and Science)
2. Tertiary (Polytechnic & Universities)

For each group category, the top 3 teams with the best projects will receive the following:

1st Prize: S$5,000
2nd Prize: S$2,500
3rd Prize: S$1,500

For each group category, additional special prizes worth S$500 each will be given to teams with exemplary performance in the following categories of the Challenge:

  • Most Innovative Project
  • Best Use of GIS
  • Best Data Collection
  • Best Designed Booth
  • Best Presentation
  • Best Paper
  • Potential Business Product & Service
